Twitter, IBM Partner To Offer Better Analytics For Businesses

Twitter has become one of the best places to spread news and content, but compared to Facebook, it is lacking when it comes to advertising and actual data analysis.

This has forced Twitter to open the third party gates for analytics, allowing Gnip, Datasift, Dataminr and more to buy access to tweets and sell the data to businesses, who can use this to work on better advertising campaigns for Twitter.

There has been some successful advertising, but with the limited tools available on Twitter for advertisers, it becomes more about the company tagging onto a social event, like when the lights went off at the Super Bowl, to capture Twitter's audience and gain re-tweets and exposure.

The new data analysis, cloud computing and Watson virtual-brain available from IBM should allow businesses more understanding of Twitter - how to get advertisements seen by the most.

For Twitter, this is a big partnership, considering many large businesses rely on IBM's cloud tools to run their analytics side. IBM is one of the most reputable providers in the industry and has a huge portfolio of partnerships, which Twitter could leach from.

The one problem Twitter has is offering their own data analysis. Facebook has invested billions into data and advertising, but Twitter has so far been hesitant to invest so readily, offering the platform out to third parties instead.

This gives Facebook a distinct advantage in the advertising battle. On mobile, Facebook is miles ahead of Twitter when it comes to advertising conversion, even though Twitter's user-base has moved to mobile just as fast as Facebook users.
