Instagram Announces Video Advertisements Incoming

After announcing Instagram Video earlier this year, to compete with Twitter's Vine, users were able to upload 15-second videos onto their feed. Now, advertisers will be able to purchase spots on Instagram to upload their own 15-second videos.

These videos will appear when scrolling down the feed, and with the limited amount of current partners, you are likely to see the same advertisement a few times.

Activision, Banana Republic, the CW, Disney and Lancôme are the first partners who will bring video ads to Instagram. The ads, similar to Facebook video ads, will autoplay in silent, allowing the user to go back and un-mute if they found the ad interesting.

This has worked on Facebook, with video viewing up more than 100 percent from last year. Facebook has also become a much more prominent provider of advertising on mobile and should be able to offer Instagram a helping hand, as they get started.

Video advertisements go for a much higher price - user engagement is normally higher and a 15-second video is normally more memorable than a photo. If Instagram is capable of bringing in more partners, it could open up even more doors for the photo sharing subsidiary.

A lot of these startups that did not focus on advertising are starting to get into the tune of the Web. Tumblr, the Yahoo owned blogging service, recently announced video ads. Snapchat also announced their first adverts coming to the mobile app, pushing the startup's valuation even higher.
