Xiaomi Beats Huawei, Lands as Third Largest Smartphone Maker in the World

Xiaomi and its fans are celebrating the company's third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world award. According to reports, Xiaomi sold 19 million handsets in Q3 of 2014 and overtook Huawei which sold 16.8 million in the third quarter of 2014.
Xiaomi was founded in 2010 initially as an Android OS developer and its first product was the Android-based MIUI operating system. From there, the company started to make smartphones. Xiaomi is growing strongly in the past few years. The company sold 5.7 million smartphones in 2012 and increased it sales to 18.7 million handsets in 2013. For the first quarter of 2014, Xiaomi sold 11 million units and 15.1 million in the second quarter of 2014.

According to the IDC report of global shipments in Q3 2014, Xiaomi used to be under Huawei, LG and Lenovo. But this year marks a big change for the company as it sits at the third spot without even leaving Asia. The company showed growth of 211.3 percent through Xiaomi's Q3 2014 17.3 million smartphone shipments compared to its Q3 2013 5.6 million.
Samsung remains first on the list with a near double lead against Apple but it has still declined every year. Samsung shipped 78.1 million handsets while Apple shipped 39.3 million. Apple shipped 5.5 million iPhone units more than the amount it did in Q3 2013 while Samsung shipped 6.9 million units less.
Lenovo shipped more than 4.6 million units this year compared to Q3 2013 while LG shipped 4.8 million handsets more than last year.
