We already know that director J.J. Abrams is planning on returning to the franchise's roots with the newest installment inspired by the original trilogy. The Force Awakens title also seems to have that vintage Star Wars feel without actually ripping off any of the original trilogy's titles.
It's no secret that Star Wars fans were vastly disappointed with the prequel trilogy, mostly in large part due to the heavy CGI effects. J.J. Abrams plans to stray away from CGI and instead implement practical effects and iconic set designs that were used during the original trilogy, as shown in these set photos from TMZ:
According to Disney, all the filming for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has officially ended, but that doesn't mean it's anywhere near being ready for the theaters. The film still has many months of post-production and editing before it officially opens in theaters next year on Dec. 18.
Disney has successfully kept any information about Episode VII under wraps. Not many details have been announced of what the newest installment is actually about - and there probably won't be until Disney starts releasing trailers - but there are a couple things to go off of.
J.J. Abrams is bringing back some of the original crew including Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa. That means the Episode VII will be somewhat of an extension from the original trilogy based 28 years in the future.
There's also going to be a whole new generation of younger characters as well. TheVerge speculated that The Force Awakening could simply reference new Jedi coming across their newfound abilities, or it could mean something much bigger like the Force changing things across the galaxy in major ways. Only time will tell.
