Google Fiber Coming To Small Businesses In Kansas City

Google Fiber's first fiber city, Kansas City, will now support small businesses. Google announced the new fiber optic service for businesses earlier this week, looking to cater for small businesses who utilize the Web.

Kansas City was the testing ground for Google Fiber "fiberhoods" in 2011, where Google cherry-picked various neighbourhoods and suburbs, installing 1Gbps Internet into homes.

The city's leaders have allowed Google free reign over the installation process and early results show almost everyone who has switched is satisfied with the service. Business owners in the pilot test also seem happy with the upgrade in speed.

In an interview with one of the pilot businesses owners, Marcello Vergara, owner of app development studio Propaganda 3, said Google Fiber has boosted productivity, alongside bringing the business into the cloud and setting up Hangout sessions.

Google Fiber offers almost x100 faster Internet for consumers - for businesses - it might be x10 faster than what Comcast and AT&T can offer. Video, audio, photo and web development studios could save hours of time uploading per day, to spend on other tasks.

The push into business comes at a time where Google is expanding its business-focused applications. Google already has its own suite of online apps, including Hangouts, Drive and Gmail, all with improved features for a business to work on.

If Google Fiber draws businesses into this suite of business applications, it might bring a huge surge in enterprise sales for Google, since the suite does not come for free. Google would be fighting against a few active competitors, including IBM, Microsoft and Amazon.

Google Fiber will be available for small businesses in Kansas City starting today, for $100 per month. This is $30 more expensive than the customer monthly payment.
