Actor and model Lee Min Ho is the most followed Korean celebrity with more than 24.6 million Weibo followers. He recently surpassed singer-songwriter Psy, who follows closely with more than 24 million followers.
Weibo means "microblog" in Chinese. Sina Weibo is a popular website for microblogging. It is mostly described as the counterpart of Facebook and Twitter in China.

Other Korean celebrities popular in Weibo include actors Jang Keun-suk and Lee Joon-gi and boy band Super Junior's Siwon.
Lee Minho's popularity in China started growing since he starred in the dramas Boys Over Flowers, City Hunter, and The Heirs, which had all been major hits across Asia.
He also participated in the popular variety show Happy Camp and became the first Korean to perform on premier television special CCTV New Year's Gala. On November 10, 2014, the Beijing branch of Madame Tussauds Museum revealed a Lee Min Ho wax doll.
Korea's entertainment companies have started promotions in China. SM Entertainment even created groups with Korean and Chinese members such as Super Junior-M and EXO.
Many members of boy band EXO, which had recently finished their concert tour in China, have Weibo accounts which they update frequently. Sometimes, they even interact with the fans by replying to their comments.
With the use of social networking sites, it had been much easier for celebrities to make promotions. Many artists would post updates and photos about their drama schedules, upcoming albums and even comeback hints and teasers.
Through social media, it had been easier for artists to reach out to their local and international fans. In just a few clicks, artists would be able to share little things about their daily life.
With social networking sites, communication between artists and fans start to grow without limit, without borders and without racial differences. Not only does this lead to more opportunities for the entertainment industry but greater chances for strong global ties between nations.
