In Asia, home manufacturers are often given more love than foreign brands, it is part of the reason Samsung and LG remain at the top of the sales in South Korea and Xiaomi seems to be kicking out all of the other smartphone makers in China.
Taiwan only has one prominent smartphone manufacturer, HTC. The company once lauded for its impressive new takes on Android devices - in the past few years have downgraded in size and revenue - leading to questions on whether the brand will last.

Even though the U.S., Europe and most of Asia has started looking at other smartphones, Taiwan has stuck with HTC for a good few years.
In October 2014, it looks like this is set to change. Apple, for the first time in a while, has surpassed HTC as the largest smartphone seller in Taiwan, thanks to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Apple managed to hit a solid 23.6 percent of all sales, HTC hit 16.9 percent and in third place Samsung with 14.3 percent. Sales value figures were even better for Apple, with the company hitting 44.6 percent, compared to second place HTC with 13.6 percent.
The 16GB iPhone 6 is by far the most popular model in Taiwan. Surprisingly, the second highest seller in Taiwan was the Sony Xperia Z3, followed by the HTC One M8 and Desire 816.
Apple's iPhone 6 Plus continues to sit under the iPhone 6 in overall sales, sitting at the bottom of the top-ten smartphones in October, with the Galaxy Note 4 and Sony Xperia C3.
Even though Apple has taken Taiwan's market share away from HTC, it is not like the Taiwanese-based company has released a smartphone in the past few months. When HTC releases the One M9, we expect the company will be back at the top.
The Taiwan smartphone industry is quite large, considering the population of the country. 870,000 smartphones sales were recorded in Taiwan on October. The country is extremely literate when it comes to the Internet and has a large demographic of mobile users.
