Former Tinder Execs Create Bumble, A More "Respectful" Dating App

(Photo : Apps Store) Former Tinder executives, including Whitney Wolfe, who sued Tinder's CMO Justin Mateen for sexual harassment, have returned with a more "respectful" dating app, called Bumble.

One of the largest critiques of Tinder - the social dating app - is the amount of men that spam the app for hours on end. Users also question the lack of settings available to make sure matches aren't random.

Bumble, created by some ex-Tinder employees, looks to offer a more "respectful" approach to other dating apps, by offering more control to the woman in the match and reducing the amount of spam.

The creators of Bumble include Whitney Wolfe, who sued her ex-boyfriend and CMO of Tinder Justin Mateen for sexual harassment. Two other ex-Tinder employees, Chris Gulczynski, former COO and Sarah Mick, former vice president of design, form the leaders of Bumble.

The description of Bumble on its Facebook page states:

Bumble is the proper place to meet people. It's everything you've always wanted from a social discovery app with none of the things you don't. Other apps are full of creepy guys and cheesy pickup lines - but Bumble promotes a safe and respectful community. You'll never get unwanted messages and Bumble suggests matches based on more relevant signals than other, more shallow apps. So stop wasting time finding tons of dead end matches on other apps and switch to Bumble.

This is a big gamble that people, especially the younger audience, actually care about cheesy pick-up lines and spam. The popularity of Tinder seems to conclude that most are fine with the odd weird match, since it is a rather relaxed and easy to move on from vibe.

Setting up the barriers and giving women more control on Bumble is an interesting solution to one of the more common problems when it comes to online dating, men being too forward and aggravating.

On Tinder, there is a big mess of people who use the same copy and paste chat-up line for all matches. Bumble hopes that with the new barriers to communication, conversation will be more relevant to topics and not just cheesy one-liners.

By putting up barriers, Bumble will most likely be for people actually interested in dating and meeting new people, instead of just finding people in the local area who may or may not share any interests.

Bumble is available on the iOS store now for free. No word on an Android or Web launch.
