Following the big surprise of Hong Kong actor Wong Cho Lam's marriage proposal to his girlfriend, former Miss Chinese International winner Leanne Li, it has been predicted that despite their upcoming wedding, they are bound to get a divorce someday.

Wong and Li have not yet even gotten married, but predictions that they will get a divorce somewhere along the line after their marriage has surfaced recently. Speculations that, just like other couples whose weddings and engagements had been aired live, the actor and the actress are bound to be separated one way or the other.

Many have pointed out that couples including Alex Man and Niu Ten, Chow Yun Fat and Candice Yu, and Kenny Bee and Teresa Cheung all ended up getting a divorce after their wedding celebrations were aired live on TV. Because of this, many have speculated that the celebrity couple would eventually go their separate ways.

Other than the rather superstitious prediction, many have criticized Wong's proposal during the TVB Anniversary Gala, claiming that it was not really a surprise and was just a gimmick to boost the popularity of the event which was aired live on TV.

Furthermore, many have pointed out that Li has already talked about wedding plans the previous month in an interview with a magazine. Viewers have also added that the proposal was a way for TVB to secure the viewership for the upcoming dramas produced by the company since HKTV has started airing the drama,  'The Election, which is said to be popular in Hong Kong.

Leung Sze Ho, the TV host also criticized Wong for his decision to propose during the gala, allegedly saying that the actor was an attention-seeker. He also added that wedding organized by TVB always end up in divorces.

However, there are still those who believe in the genuine side of the proposal just like Eric Tsang, who is Wong's friend and was one of the brains behind the idea.

Tsang said, "I said why not make it big, propose at the show," and also defended Wong, saying that it was not his intention to steal the limelight at the gala.

On the one hand, Wong responded to the controversies through his manager, saying that he and Li are Christian couples who would do as they like, also stating that he will treat everyone's opinions as kind of blessing for them.
