Russian mobile maker Yotaphone has announced the second edition of its dual-screen smartphone, simply named the Yotaphone 2.
Yotaphone 2 was originally shown off at Mobile World Congress in February this year. It has taken the company 8 months to get the phone to the store-front.
The biggest feature on the Yotaphone 2 is the dual-display. One side is the classic 5-inch LCD display, the other is a 4.7-inch E-Ink display. It is one of the first phones to commercially provide a dual-screen, and definitely the first to incorporate E-Ink.

E-Ink has been used previously on the Kindle Paperwhite (and other e-readers) and the Pebble Watch. It offers much more battery life than a standard LCD panel, but comes with the drawback of slow responsiveness and no color.
The Yotaphone 2 is suited to users who like reading on E-Ink and only using the LCD when needing. It provides ample battery life when using only the E-Ink display - at 5 days without charge. The LCD display only last 8 hours, before needing a top-up.
Internally, the Yotaphone 2 is slightly outdated against Android competitors. It runs on a Snapdragon 800 processor - clocked at 2.2GHz. The rest of the internals look similar to most devices: 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front camera, 4G, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.
Wireless charging is available on the Qi standard and the Yotaphone 2 has a 2,500mAh battery. Overall, it is a device sitting in the first half of 2014, but may make up for it with the dual-screen.
Android 4.4.3 runs on the Yotaphone 2, again a little late to the new Android Lollipop update. Yotaphone offers an SDK for app developers who want to create apps for the E-Ink display, meaning many apps will not run on the other side.
Yotaphone 2 costs around $600 in RUB, but $800 in European price. It is clear Yotaphone is cashing in on the highest disposable income in European countries, while offering the same phone for cheaper in Russia.
No word on a U.S. release date, it will reach Europe this week and should start shipping in December.
