Matthew Cowles of "All My Children" Dies at 69

American actor and playwright, Matthew Cowles died at his home, Thursday, at the age of 69, according to E! News.

His manager, Tsu Tsu Stanton, had confirmed his death through Twitter, saying that "he was a very gifted and kind man who loved life and everyone."

Cowles was best known for his role as the antagonist, Billy Clyde Tuggle in ABC's TV drama, "All My Children", which earned him 2 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Actor in 1978 and Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1981.

He appeared on the series on and off since 1977 until 1990. He returned to reprise his role in 2013 for the show's web series version.

Aside from All My Children, he also appeared in TV shows such as The Bold and The Beautiful, Lonesome Dove, Law & Order, Oz and Life on Mars.

His first movie role was in 1969 as Harvey Belman in comedy-drama, Me, Natalie. Other movies under his belt include The World According to Garp, The Cowboy Way, The Juror, Nurse Betty and Shutter Island.

Cowles also participated in a number of theater plays such as Malcolm, The Indian Wants the Bronx, The Time of Your Life, Sweet Bird of Youth and Dirty Jokes.

Cowles was well-loved by his peers in the industry, some of them taking to Twitter to offer a few words in his memory.

Jean Passanante, writer of the ABC series, All My Children, described Cowles as "a sweet man and uniquely talented actor," on Twitter, Sunday.

Likewise, All My Children co-star, Cady McClain expressed her sadness via the social media site and described Cowles as a "lovely man". She went on to describe him as kind as she shared that she had "adored working with him last year."

He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, The Good Wife actress, Christine Baranski (62) and his two daughters, Isabel (30), and Lily (27).
