The Syrian government on Monday called on the United Nations to impose sanctions on Israel for the bombing of Damascus airport and Dimas, an attack which officials condemned as a "heinous" crime against Syrian sovereignty.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and the UN Security Council, the Syrian Foreign Ministry accused Israel for Sunday's bombing.

It alleged that the attack was part of the Jewish state's efforts to back armed terror blocs in Syria, especially after the government's recent successes in Aleppo, Daara and Deir Ezzor.
The letter accused Israel of attempting to detract attention from its own internal conflicts caused in part by the collapse of its government and extreme policies, and over its continued occupation of Arab territories, through its persistent air strikes in the region.
Israel's policy in support of terrorism is apparent, Syrian officials wrote.
Damascus urged the UN to take all necessary action provided under the UN Charter to ensure that Jerusalem would not be able to carry out such "aggressions" in the future.
Israel has targeted Syrian locations in the past, mostly aimed at destroying weapons and artillery, which Israeli authorities claimed were intended for the militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon, a known ally of Syria.
Jerusalem has made no secret of its harsh stance against its enemies gaining access to "sophisticated" weaponry, a position Israeli Minister of Intelligence Yuval Steinitz reiterated on Monday.
On Sunday, Syrian media reported that Israeli forces had struck near the Damascus international airport and the town of Dimas, just off the Lebanese border.
While the air strikes had caused substantial damage, there were no casualties, Aljazeera relayed.
According to sources cited by Arab media on Monday, the targets had been military sites with storage facilities for missiles and drones, which belonged to the Hezbollah.
Israel has yet to respond to the allegations.
