Iowa to Accept Digital Driver's Licenses

Iowa looks to be one of the first U.S. states to use digital driver's licenses, allowing citizens to carry one less thing in their wallet.
Iowa is looking to make the amount of cards in a citizen's wallet a bit smaller, by creating a digital driver's license. The driver's license would work in the same way as a physical card, but would be available on a smartphone.
The move to smartphones is a slow one for government and identification, but Iowa is pushing to see the digital change in the next year. Users will be able to show the card to police when pulled over.

Iowa's department of transportation will work on the technology for the driver's license app. It will come with verification, either through a fingerprint, iris or photograph, making it more safe than most applications.
"You're not going to forget your phone. That's the first thing you grab, if you forget your wallet, you lose it or you have to back, all that stuff," said Oscar Garcia
It looks like the app will be available first on iOS. Apple recently added Touch ID to the iPhone 5S, 6 and 6 Plus, meaning most iPhone users already have some form of verification inbuilt.
Reward and club cards have started to become available on mobile. Starbucks, Best Buy and other retailers allow users to store points and check for deals on mobile, instead of using a physical card.
Governments are more interested than before when it comes to making everything digital. Iowa is one of the first U.S. states to offer users this digital driver's license and we are sure other states will follow in their footsteps.
