In her memoir "Not That Kind of Girl," Lena Dunham accuses a Republican named "Barry" of sexually assaulting her while she was attending Oberlin College.
Although the 28-year old writer-actress claimed that she didn't write about the assault to bring to seek justice for it, many working in media connected the said assault to an actual person named Barry who fit the description Dunham wrote in her book.

The star then penned an essay to say that the name "Barry" was not the offender's real name, but rather a pseudonym she gave him.
In the said essay she wrote for Buzzfeed, Dunham stated, "As indicated in the beginning of the book, I made the choice to keep certain identities private, changing names and some descriptive details. To be very clear, 'Barry' is a pseudonym, not the name of the man who assaulted me. Any resemblance to a person with this name is an unfortunate and surreal coincidence. I am sorry about all he has experienced."
The real-life Barry, on the other hand, isn't quite happy that it took her all this time to clarify that Barry was a pseudonym.
Aaron Minc, Barry's attorney, stated that Barry had approached Dunham and Random House, her publisher, about the use of his name two months ago.
Barry said that he was baffled to have his name used, and that because of the delay in clarifying the issue, he believes that the harm done to his reputation is irreparable.
Because of what Barry had gone through due to the non-clarification of the issue, Random House has been prompted to change future printings and digital versions of the book to clearly indicate that "Barry" is a pseudonym. The publisher will also be paying for all of real-life Barry's legal fees.
Minc had created a GoFundMe page for Barry which has so far raised more than $25,000. Random House stated that since they will be paying for all of his fees, the money he will receive will allow Barry to donate the money he has raised to non-profit organizations that assist survivors of sexual assault and rape.
