After years of endless trade rumors, Rajon Rondo officially has been shipped out of Boston and will join the western-powerhouse Dallas Mavericks, according to multiple reports Thursday.

The Boston Celtics traded the four-time All-Star to the Mavericks in exchange for center/forward Brandan Wright, guard Jameer Nelson, forward Jae Crowder, as well as a 2015 first round draft pick, 2016 second round draft pick and a $12.9 million trade exception.

The move was a no-brainer for Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban, as Rondo - regarded as one of the best facilitator's in the league - will join Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons, Tyson Chandler and Monta Ellis to make the team even more of a title contender.

Danny Ainge, president of basketball operations for the Celtics, added more to his treasure trove full of assets for a player who likely would have left next summer. Rondo already expressed his interest in testing the market in the free agency and Celtics were reluctant to offer the max contract he feels he deserves.

Rondo played eight seasons with the Celtics and was a key component when the franchise won its 17th championship in 2008 during his sophomore season. In 23 games this season for the Celtics, the 28-year-old averaged 8.3 points, 10.8 assists, and 7.5 rebounds.

"We would like to thank Rajon for everything that he has done for the Celtics organization and the success we have experienced during his tenure with us," said Danny Ainge.

Celtics now have eight first round draft picks in the next four years, and more players on expiring contracts to open up future cap space.

Brandan Wright also has tons of potential and is extremely athletic while being one of the best finishers around the rim in the league. Although Wright has been coming off the bench for Dallas, his 74.8 percent from the field is currently leading the NBA. His athleticism and high-flying dunks will fit right in with Boston's fast tempo transition offense.

The $12.9 million trade exception is perhaps the most overlookeiece of the trade. Danny Ainge essentially traded a $10 million trade exception to the Cavaliers recently for two solid role players in Tyler Zeller and Marcus Thornton plus a first round draft pick.

Despite the benefits of the trade however, the consensus among Celtics fans aren't too positive on losing its star guard and face to the franchise.

"We would not have won Banner 17 without Rajon and will always consider him one of our most valuable Celtics, both on the court and in the community working with kids. We will always cherish the time he was here," Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said.
