Elon Musk's Hyperloop "Only 10 Years Away"

Elon Musk's super-fast travel option—named the Hyperloop—could be available in 10 years according to the project CEO Dirk Ahlborn.
Elon Musk's Hyperloop design has been taken on by Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, a new startup keen to begin working on the super-fast transportation system.
The new startup has been set up by Dirk Ahlborn, a German-born entrepreneur. It is available to view on JumpStartFund, a place for investors to check out new startups.

In a 78-page report, Ahlborn goes over all of the needs for the Hyperloop to become a reality. Elon Musk will have no part in the startup, and has offered the Hyperloop design out to anyone for free.
The Hyperloop plan would offer a way for commuters to travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles in just 30 minutes. The Hyperloop should travel at over 800 miles per hour, almost ten times the average train speed.
Ahlborn claims the Hyperloop will cost anywhere between $7 and $19 billion to develop, a wild bunch of numbers. Price of materials and potential political conflicts might lead to extra investment.
Not taking into account the high probability that the state or Congress will have problems with the new transportation system, Ahlborn says the Hyperloop could be a reality within ten years.
Even with the big investment numbers, Ahlborn does not plan for the Hyperloop to be for high-class only. Economy tickets should be available for $20 to $30, or perhaps free with advertisements.
It is unclear how economy, business and first class will differentiate, considering all three will be based in a small black room for 30 minutes. Just enough time to grab a meal and not enough time to watch a movie.
The idea of advertisements is interesting, not least because it may make the journey free. It is not clear if users will be able to pay $20 for an ad-free option, or if Hyperloop will go with one or the other.
Hyperloop is definitely the most interesting innovation in transportation for the U.S. and the first may spur on states or even other transportation companies to invest.
Ahlborn did say the main objective is building the Hyperloop, if political issues become too much in the U.S., Hyperloop will look to other countries to build the super-speed system.
