The hackers who have allegedly directed several attacks to Sony's Playstation Network (PSN) and Microsoft's Xbox Live last Christmas day are now setting their sights on the anonymity network Tor.

The group named "Lizard Squad" took the blame and claimed responsibility for the hacking of the online gaming environments.

With a tweet made last Friday, they have made their next target known to the world.

"To clarify, we are no longer attacking PSN or Xbox. We are testing our new Tor 0day," the tweet said.

Tor is a free piece of software that allows users anonymity when online. It aims to resist censorship and allows for users to surf the internet with their activities and interests avoiding any and all prying eyes from governments or corporations.

While users who have checked the status of Tor through one website have showed several routers with the name "LizardNSA," the extent of any attack was unclear.

Managers of Tor have already caught wind of a possible attack last December 19. They said that there may be an attempt to incapacitate the network in the next few days through the seizure of specialized servers in the network called directory authorities.

Currently, no attack has been recorded.

Sony engineers on the other hand continued in the struggle of getting PSN back online following the suspected denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks last Thursday.

Through their Twitter account, Sony asked several frustrated gamers to bear with them through the wake of this attack as they are not sure when PSN will be back online.

Xbox Live on the other hand was up and running on Friday, with core services already in operation.

The MegaUpload founder, Kim Dotcom, also said in his Twitter account that he has been able to stop the hackers by offering them lifetime memberships on his file-transfer site Mega.
