Sony Considering 12.9-Inch Tablet For 2015

(Photo : Reuters) The news of a 12.9-inch iPad Plus has spurred Sony to start work on its own similarly sized tablet.
Sony has been exploring the tablet market for a while now, but the Xperia Tablet range has never shown any dominance in the Android market.
This might change in 2015, according to a report from the tainted source DigiTimes. Sony is looking into creating a new form factor, 12.9-inches, to fit with the reported iPad Pro size.

DigiTimes has lost a lot of its credibility over the years, due to false Apple reporting, but still has good ties with Android folk in South-East Asia. There are other sources backing up the report as well, showing Sony is at least thinking about it.
The 12.9-inch tablet should feature a 3840 x 2400 (4K) 16:10 display and the Snapdragon 810 processor. Having these high-end features could spike the interest of power users, if Sony can price it right.
Pegatron will build the tablet, the same Chinese manufacturer working on the Surface Pro 3 and the iPad. The Chinese firm recently ran into trouble, due to an investigative report from the BBC, uncovering some of the human rights abuses happening in the factories.
The new tablet may be shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 in January, pointing to a summer launch. That would fit with Sony's normal launch dates for phones and tablets.
12.9-inch form factor is still in early days, but Apple's rumored interest has sparked other companies to work on a similar sized tablet. How successful the tablet is will depend on the customer interest for a 12.9-inch Xperia tablet.
