The New York Jets owner Woody Johnson couldn't let the opportunity of having Todd Bowles coach his team get away. He replaces Rex Ryan on head coaching duties for the Jets.

Bowles was interviewed for a second time last Tuesday for several hours. It was reported that afterwards, the former Cardinals defensive coordinator was taken out for dinner and drinks.

Last Tuesday night, the Jets reached an agreement with Bowles to become their new head coach.

While the deal has not yet been officially inked, the contract is expected to be signed on Wednesday.

A source familiar with the situation of the Jets said that Bowles has been telling people that he will be getting the job.

Initially, the buzz for the head coach position was on Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. He has been receiving much of the public's attention.

The inner circle of the Jets though had a different plan in mind as they gravitated towards Bowles.

The decision came partly because Quinn was unavailable for a second interview due to the Seahawk's ongoing playoff run. The Jets were determined to forge ahead despite that.

Woods was also pressured by the fact that if he let Bowles leave New Jersey without a deal in place, he may have been picked up by the Falcons again as he was heading for a second interview.

They were determined not to let that happen though as the meeting lasted several hours, after which Jets owner and advisers took him out for dinner.

The cancellation of a second interview with Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott was a  further evidence that Bowles was the man for the Jets.

Bowles played safety for eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL), from 1986-93.

His coaching career began as the Jets defensive backs coach in 2000.

For the next 12 seasons he spent time coaching defensive backs for the Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Eagles, and finally, the Falcons defensive coordinator in 2013.
