As prophesized, Rex Ryan has been from his Head Coach position with the National Football League's (NFL) New York Jets.

For the longest time, Ryan has been saying that he knew all season long that it was only a matter of time until he was fired from the Jets head coach position.

Though Ryan has maintained quite a positive outlook when addressing members of the press, he's was resigned to a doomed fate all year long.

Time finally ran out this Monday when Jets owner Woody Johnson decided to completely clean house. Johnson was tired of all the losing, the four straight season without going to the playoffs.

In one fell swoop, Johnson fired head coach Ryan and general manager John Idzik, only one day after completing their most disappointing seasons in franchise history.

"We're in the win business, and we're not winning," Johnson said at a jam-packed news conference at the team's facility. "So, I thought this was something I had to do."

For the fourth consecutive year, the Jets - with a 4-12 record this season - will be staying home for the postseason. Johnson chose to start fresh with a new coach and general manager, with candidates for both positions already contacted.

Johnson has not made it known exactly who is on his short list, but he made it clear he wants a head coach who is a presence in all three aspects of the team namely: offense, defense, and special team.

This was a frequent criticism of the defensive focus that Ryan had.

For the general manager position, Johnson indicated that he would have a strong background in personnel, which was regarded as one of Idzik's shortcomings.
