(Photo : Kickstarter ) Elan Lee and The Oatmeal's wacky card game has received 30000% of its funding goal in one week.

Kickstarter is a place for smart, simple and stupid ideas and the newest viral hit 'Exploding Kittens' fits into all three categories.

Developed by former chief of Xbox Entertainment Studios Elan Lee, the card game is a "highly strategic kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette", using the same concept as Uno but with more strategic diversity to stop the exploding kitty card from getting placed.

Players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an exploding kitten and loses the game. The deck is made up of cards that let you avoid exploding by peeking at cards before you draw, forcing your opponent to draw multiple cards, or shuffling the deck.

The game gets more and more intense with each card you draw because fewer cards left in the deck means a greater chance of drawing the kitten and exploding in a fiery ball of feline hyperbole.

Lee will work alongside Matthew Inman, the webcomic writer and artist for The Oatmeal and Shane Small, a creative designer for Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and Xbox.

In under an hour, Exploding Kittens reached over 1000% of its original $10,000 goal, taking pledges from $20 (for the cards) to $500 (for the deck of legends; custom drawn cards). In 24 hours, this would step to 10000%, or $1 million.

The Kickstarter currently sits at $3.8 million with almost 100,000 backers involved. Considering the amount of card game and deck crowdfunding projects on Kickstarter, it is rather amazing and a credit to the three guys that this worked so well.

With 24 days to go, Exploding Kittens could surpass $6 million in funding and put it in the top four Kickstarters of all time, alongside Coolest Cooler, Pebble e-paper smartwatch, the Ouya and Pono Music.
