The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) made good its threat to decapitate 47-year-old Kenji Goto, the second hostage from Japan killed in a week. Following the beheading, message of condolences poured in.

ISIS initially agreed not to execute Goto if Jordan would say "yes" to a prisoner swap for al-Qaeda female suicide bomber Sajida al-Rishawi, while Jordan wanted to trade her for Lt. Muath al-Kaseasbeh, the Jordanian pilot captured by the IS.

However, indirect negotiations by Japan and Jordan with tribal leaders from Iraq as the middle men failed and the Thursday deadline ended, resulting in the ISIS posting in YouTube on Saturday the beheading video through its media unit, al-Furqan.

Goto, garbed in an orange jumpsuit, was kneeling, while jihadist John, in black attire, said, "Abe, because of your reckless decision to take part in an unwinnable war, this knife will not only slaughter Kenji, but will also carry on and cause carnage wherever your people are found. So let the nightmare of Japan begin," quotes AP.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, after holding an emergency cabinet meeting, expressed anger at the "immoral and heinous act of terrorism." He said the beheading left him speechless as he delved on the grief of Goto's family. Abe also stressed that Tokyo denounces the barbaric act.

U.S. President Barack Obama expectedly condemned the execution of Goto, whom Obama pointed out "Through his reporting, Mr Goto courageously sought to convey the plight of the Syrian people to the outside world," quotes Japan Times.

Obama, who leads the Coalition that is battling the ISIS through air strikes, commended the steadfast commitment of Japan to work for peace and prosperity in Middle East via financial resource allocation for victims of the ISIS atrocities.

Appalling was the term used by British Prime Minister David Cameron as he condemned the despicable murder of Goto. He adds, "It is a further reminder that ISIL is the embodiment of evil, with no regard for human life."

French President Francois Hollande likewise spoke against the "brutal murder" of Goto and promised that France, which recently experienced Islamic terror through the Charlie Hebdo massacre, "stands in solidarity with Japan," as he vowed to "continue to work together for peace in the Middle East and to eliminate terrorist groups."

Even with the chopping of the heads of Yukawa and Goto, Abe insists that Tokyo will not give in to terrorism and vows to honor his pledge of $200 million humanitarian assistance to countries that fight the extremist group.

Junko Ishido, Goto's mother, said that Kenji's death proves her son's good heart since he risked his life by flying to Syria to save Yukawa.
