San Francisco Suitcase Murder Yields One Suspect

San Francisco Police arrested on Friday evening a 60-year-old man who is the suspect in a murder case in which the body parts of the victim were placed inside a suitcase and left on a sidewalk at the corner of 11th and Mission Streets near the headquarters of Twitter.

A tip led to the arrest of Mark Andrus who was staying in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Besides Andrus, the police also detained two other people, one of whom is considered a person of interest in the homicide case. They were brought to the Hall of Justice for questioning.
Reuters reports that the city medical examiner said the body parts belong to a light-skinned male. But the examiner hasn't established yet the cause of death or identity of the victim.
The examiner said that investigators would also seek the help of the DNA lab at the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Forensic Services to help determine the victim's identity.
After the suitcase was discovered on Wednesday afternoon, cops closed several blocks of South of Market in downtown San Francisco. Besides the human body parts stuffed inside the suitcase, the police discovered some more body parts in the area.
Authorities are also appealing to the public with information about the victim's death to get in touch with the SFPD homicide unit at (415) 553-1145 or email gay.watts@sfgov.org. They would even entertain anonymous tips at (415) 575-4444.
