(Photo : Apple) Apple is planning to launch its new 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air before the new 12-inch model.

Apple might be holding off on the launch of the 12-inch MacBook Air, instead launching a small update to the 11-inch and 13-inch models to go alongside the Apple Watch launch, sources said.

The update will come on February 24 according to Letemsvetemapplem, a Czech Apple blog.

Apple might hold an event later this month or in March to go through the final updates to the Apple Watch, but it is unlikely that the 11-inch and 13-inch updates will be part of the event.

In terms of specification changes, the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air models will feature faster Intel chips, similar to almost every Mac update.

The Intel chips will most likely run on Broadwell microarchitecture, with Skylake coming in Q3 2015.

The 12-inch MacBook Air will launch later in the year, potentially alongside the Skylake update to Intel chips.

The update should bring improved battery conservation, alongside faster processing, two things the retina display MacBook Air would need.

Considering it is only a small update, the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air's will most likely feature the same ports as the previous generation.

This means the next generation models will feature the one-port solution for charging and USB connection.

Apple's Mac range managed 5.5 million sales in Q4 2015, surpassing the sales of the iPad to become the company's second best selling range.

This was a surprise considering most PC vendors were seeing quarterly losses as more people switch to tablets.

Hopefully in 2015 we will see some big improvements on the Mac to show Apple is invested in keeping computers relevant in a mobile dominated world.
