Police investigators in Michigan have concluded that an accidental gun shooting involving a bra holster caused the death of a mother of two.

A local pageant winner and politician, Christina Bond, 55, inflicted a fatal gunshot wound to her eye while trying to secure her handgun, authorities said.

She was struggling with an adjustment to her bra holster because the fit was not the way she was used to, St. Joseph Public Safety Director Mark Clapp said, adding Bond was looking down at the firearm when she accidentally pulled the trigger.

She was taken from her Lake Michigan residence to a local medical center but she died due to severe injuries.

Clapp said he has yet to receive a full autopsy report on the victim.

An obituary that appeared in the local paper, Herald-Palladium, said she went on two tours as a United States Navy member and she served as a local Republican official.

She also clinched the championship in the Miss Michigan Figure Overall body-building competition two years ago. Bond was an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. Her obituary says Bond have been "on fire" for the Lord.

Gun bra holsters having been rising in popularity, according to the owner of the Well Armed Woman score, Carrie Lightfoot.

Lightfoot says the bra holster is sort of in a natural location depending on the size of the woman's chest and the gun. She adds women are merely looking for options because one day a woman is wearing a suit, another day wearing exercise outfits and another time being worn down.

Although the incident, which caused Bond's death, happened on New Year's Day, homicide detectives only made public the details surrounding the shooting on Wednesday.
