Myanmar's air force accidentally bombed Chinese soil over the weekend amid the growing conflict between its government and Kokang rebels, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei confirmed.
The accidental strike caused injuries but no deaths were recorded. However, a Chinese civilian building was damaged, Hong confirmed during a press conference on March 10.

The ministry spokesperson added that they have already talked to Myanmar and urged its government forces to stop the bombing and talk to the local rebels as soon as possible. This move aimed to avoid endangering anyone in China again, Hong explained.
The accidental bombing has forced mainland China to review its policy on non-interference on internal affairs of other states.
The bombing came a week after a senior general from the People's Liberation Army reportedly leaked state secrets to the Kokang rebels. This prompted Myanmar to accuse China of helping fuel the insurgents' extremism.
Myanmar's conflict with local rebels also comes Beijing's relationship with Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and other South Asian countries have become strained.
China is also ensuring that the land-based threats from its neighboring countries will not be able to infiltrate its own internal security system. Militants reportedly tend to use other Asian countries as their safe haven for planning attacks against them.
In the press conference yesterday, China's spokesperson failed to clarify if Beijing will have to escalate measures to help resolve the Myanmar conflict. Still, Hong said that President Xi Jinping will step forward with a military action if the conflict threatens China's security.
