Results based on Netradar have revealed that mobile internet users from Denmark, Switzerland and Singapore enjoy the fastest mobile internet connections in the world today.

Netradar is a free mobile app that lets users analyze and measure mobile internet connection by measuring download and upload speeds, including latency and signal strength.

Moving into the first place, Denmark reached 22.3 Mbps mobile internet speeds. Singapore attained second place at 16.9 Mbps while Switzerland reaches 16.6 Mbps.

Mobile internet users in Norway achieved 14.8 Mbps speeds while South Korea achieved 13 Mbps.

"Several factors explain why mobile phone users reach different Internet speeds in different countries." said Jukka Manner, leader of the Netradar project at Aalto University in Finland.

"Mobile Internet speed depends not only on mobile network operators and the congestion of the networks, but also on used devices, speed limitations in the subscriptions, user's distance from the operator's antenna, landscape, and available radio technologies," Manner added.

The measurements were based on data anonymously collected by Netradar from its mobile app users. This information stored in the Netradar database will also be used in public coverage maps and for further research, according to a report.

The Internet Society and Aalto University announced last year the collaboration to measure the diversity of internet access around the globe. They invited ordinary smartphone users to contribute their measurements.

"One of the tremendous benefits of Internet technology is the ability to connect diverse networks together. With Netradar we hope to expose and share some of that diversity and also to study over time how the Internet is changing." said Phil Roberts, the Internet Society's chief internet technology officer.

The Netradar app is available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Nokia X, Symbian, Meego and Jolla (Sailfish) mobile devices.
