Google has announced the new Chromebook Pixel at a low-key event earlier today, two years after the original Chromebook Pixel launch.
It doesn't come with the '2' moniker or any recognizable name change and on the exterior it looks almost identical to the original 2013 Chromebook Pixel.

The changes to thickness and weight are both marginal, but the real story is inside the Chromebook Pixel that boasts of an almost 25 percent increase in performance.
This might not seem necessary considering the original Chromebook Pixel's already high-performance on a platform like Chrome OS, which doesn't need anything near an Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. Google is positive there's a market, however.
It's also a benchmark for other companies, showing Chromebooks doesn't always need to be small cheap plastic notebooks for education. Chromebooks can be expensive, powerful and well designed.
The Chromebook Pixel will be available for US$999 and comes with an Intel Core i5 CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of SSD. The Chromebook Pixel LS (Ludicrous Speed) will feature an Intel Core i7 CPU, 16 GB of RAM and 64 GB of SSD, and will be available for US$1299.
It's still unknown how many units it managed to sell in the two years, but Google is committed to working on the Pixel.
