(Photo : Reuters) Yahoo is working on new encryption and password-free email features.
Yahoo has shown off a wide range of new features coming to its email service over the past few months. For security nuts, there's a password-free option and end-to-end encryption that will both be available by the end of year.
This is exactly what Yahoo Mail needs to win over new users that have dropped Yahoo's service for Outlook or Gmail in recent years. Yahoo still has a user-base of over 300 million but it is not clear if most of them use the Yahoo Mail client.

The end-to-end encryption is a massive update to Yahoo Mail and will roll out in stages. The first will be encrypting the bulk of the message for "particularly sensitive emails" then moving to all messages by the end of the year.
Some parts of the message will remain available for hackers, government or any other snoopers to view, but this is one of the first steps to offer end-to-end encryption on an open email client.
A password-free mode will also be available in the near future, essentially removing the part of two-step verification that is both unsafe and static. Having the other method of authentication -- through a mobile one-time password message -- is the more ideal option for security nuts.
Yahoo will be working on the aesthetic for its mail client on iOS, Android and the web in the next few months. The company has won multiple awards for its design of Weather, News Digest and other apps launched on mobile.
The SXSW conference held earlier this month is just one of the events where Yahoo made big commitments to its current lineup of services, alongside branching into mobile advertising and platform development.
It's part of a resurgence in Yahoo by CEO Marissa Mayer focused on removing attention from Yahoo's large stake in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan, and putting more efforts into establishing new markets and revamping old services.
