(Photo : Sony) Sony has launched its PlayStation Vue service in three states.
Sony has officially announced 50 channels will be available on PlayStation Vue, a new internet streaming service coming to PS3 and PS4 first.
The "Basic" bundle will feature 50 TV channels for $50 per month, Sony has added a "Core" bundle with 50 channels and some additional sports options (for $60 per month) and an "Elite" bundle with 84 channels, including more of the niche options.

Sony didn't disclose how much the "Elite" bundle costs, probably because the price matches or surpasses cable TV. The PlayStation Vue streaming service isn't cheap like Netflix or Amazon Instant Video. In fact, even against Dish Network's Sling TV it's rather expensive.
The channels available are quite extensive, including channels from CBS, NBC and Fox. It should be noted NBCUniversal is owned by Comcast and these channels won't be available on Sling TV or Apple's reported internet TV service.
PlayStation Vue's major advantage is the scale of the TV service. It offers double the amount of channels Sling TV offers. Even against Apple's internet TV service, it still manages to offer more channels but this does come at a higher price.
Cable customers might finally be able to move away from the expensive TV contracts with PlayStation Vue, Sling TV (for ESPN and Disney) and a mixture of Netflix, Instant Video, Hulu Plus and other low-price streaming services.
Cable companies don't seem too bothered by the idea of a similar priced service on the internet, as long as they get paid in full for licensing agreements.
Currently, PlayStation Vue is available in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia, but Sony is hoping to bring it to more U.S. states in the close future.
Agreements with cable operatives might mean it will remain limited throughout 2015 or until the cable industry has exhausted all its options.
