(Photo : Google Fiber) Google has announced fiber is coming to Salt Lake City.
Salt Lake City, the most populous city in Utah, will be getting Google Fiber. The search giant claims it's in talks with city leaders to work on mapping Salt Lake City for a smooth deployment into the region.
It's the fifth city added to the list of #FiberIsComing projects, alongside Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, North Carolina. Google is also working on finishing the deployment for Austin, Texas.

Salt Lake City will be the second city in Utah to receive Google Fiber following the sale of iProvo to Google for $1 last year, bringing fiber to Provo. This deployment will require a lot more investment than $1, considering Salt Lake City has a population of over 200,000.
Google hasn't given a time-frame for when deployment will start. It first needs to set a roadmap, start construction and then get people signing up for the service. Similar to what it did in other cities, Google will act on neighborhood popularity for deployment.
Considering the new Federal Communications Commission's net neutrality laws put broadband providers under Title II 'common carrier', Google is going to have an easy time with deployment as it will be able to use city pipelines and towers.
Google's fiber efforts are becoming much more than a wake-up call for broadband providers. It's not clear if Google makes a profit from fiber deployment yet, but it's definitely in this market for the long-term.
