Jawbone UP3 Finally Coming on April 20

The Jawbone UP3 is finally arriving.

Jawbone has delayed the UP3 launch for a few months, originally announcing the band late last year. The fitness tracker will finally arrive on April 20 but Jawbone has removed some of the features to finally release the UP3.

UP3 was part of a new range of fitness trackers for Jawbone, including the UP24 and UP Move. The two bands didn't face any problems when they were launched earlier this year but Jawbone announced major delays to UP3.

Jawbone has removed the water resistance features on the UP3 following issues with a fully enclosed design. It's one of the first times Jawbone's radical design has got in the way of features but we suspect it won't be the last.

It will still feature water resistance but not the type Jawbone was advertising at launch last year. Instead, the UP3 will have similar IP certificates to smartphones and other devices, typically limited water resistance for a few cases of light water damage.

One of the selling points of the Jawbone UP3 was users could go swimming with the fitness tracker. That has been removed although Jawbone still advertises many ways to keep fit with the tracker, including various sports and activities.

Jawbone was the last company to need a delay on a major product since it was looking for private investors in late 2014 for another funding round. The valuation of $2 billion was risky considering it failed a similar funding round earlier in the year but apparently Google were on board.

We're not sure if this funding round ever happened. Rumors said Google was trying to acquire Jawbone but there's no proof of that conversation happening either. The delay may have caused Google to think twice although this is all speculation.

Jawbone UP3 will go on sale on April 20 for $180. It offers all the typical fitness tracking alongside a heart-rate monitor.

Even though Jawbone has a smaller market share than FitBit -- its major competitor in the fitness tracking market - it's been voted the best provider by many outlets due to its fashionable design.
