Troy University suspended over the weekend two students charged with sexually assaulting a woman, while hundreds of people watch a gang rape the victim. Suspended were 22-year-old Delonte Martistee, a senior student and from Bainbridge, Georgia, and 23-year-old Ryan Calhoun, a sophomore student and from Mobile, Alabama.

Martistee is still detained, while Calhoun is out after posting a bond. Besides the suspension, Martistee was kicked out of the track and field team, said Herbert Reeves, dean of Student Services at Troy University, reports Chron.com.

Martistee was an athlete from Bainbridge High School who was a Georgia high school state champion in the triple jump. He also took part in football, basketball and soccer tournaments. At Troy, he competed in the high jump, long jump and triple jump, according to the university's website.

According to Sheriff Frank McKeithen, the two students, who were arrested on Friday, were part of the gang that raped a 19-year-old woman behind Spinnaker Beach Club. The victim appeared to be incapacitated on a chair.

While the rape was ongoing, hundreds of beachgoers witnessed the incident and did nothing to either stop it or report it to authorities. Someone even took a video of the incident which McKeithen described as one of the "most disgusting, repulsive, sickening things" he had seen in 2015 in the beach.

"This is happening in broad daylight with hundreds of people seeing and hearing what is happening, and they are more concerned about spilling their beer than somebody being raped," AP quotes McKeithen.

The Troy Police Department got hold of the video on April 2 after a shooting incident in Troy, Alabama. They found the video on the mobile phone of a witness.

The victim said she did not report the incident, which took place between March 10 and 12, because she did not remember anything. She told investigators that she was probably drugged.

It was not an isolated incident because authorities have been monitoring social media for similar incidents. In another video, a man performs sexual act on an apparently incapacitated woman, while the crowd pours beer on her body.

Any further restrictions during spring break, particularly the selling of liquor, is expected to be resisted by business owners and backed by the city council.

Zack Sasser, who rents beach chairs and equipment, agrees that binge drinking is the biggest issue. He disagrees that spring break is out of control but notes that more revelers are filming what's happening, like what happened to the March gang rape.
