Two years after the runners and the nation were affected by terrorist bombings, Lelisa Desisa running in impressive fashion wins the men's division of the Boston Marathon last Monday. Pundits say that the Marathon has returned to what it once signified before the bombings.

Desisa had won the same Boston Marathon that was bombed by terrorists. This year though, Desisa showed his dominance yet again by outpacing the sea of runners by a large clip.

A runner of Ethopian descent, Desisa became a favorite in the eyes of people when he donated his 2013 medal to the city.

When he came in first for this race, he acknowledged the crowd by waving at them. He came in with 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 17 seconds on his time.

"I am happy to win, No. 1," he said when he crossed the finish line.

He also dedicated his win for Boston and for Boston 2013.

Coming in close at second place was fellow Ethiopian Yemane Adhane Tsegay with the time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 48 seconds. Next up was Kenya's Wilson Chebet in third place, nearly a minute behind Tsegay.

Moving on to the women's division, Caroline Rotich of Kenya outran Ethiopias Mare Dibaba in the last 500 feet of the 26.2-long course. The nail-biting exchange ended with Rotich coming in four seconds ahead of Dibaba.

Even with the past bombings two years in the past, this year's race was a particularly important one as it had finally regained the kind of feeling that the Boston Marathon previously held.

Last year's race was very tense, as the memory of the bombs going off at the finish line --- killing three and injuring over 260 --- was still fresh on everyone's mind.

Scott Douglas, senior content editor for Runner's World, told Reuters that this race was back to what it has long been. It has become a celebration for the sport and a symbol of being the Olympics for runners.
