OnePlus One Invites Dropped in Preparation for OnePlus 2 Launch

OnePlus has dropped the invite scheme, until the OnePlus 2 launches.
OnePlus has finally removed the shackles of the OnePlus One invite system and now allows anyone that wants the $300 smartphone to order the device without waiting in an artificial queue.
The OnePlus One launched almost one year ago today was one of the most controversial smartphones in 2014. It split the demographic of typical Android fans, winning most over with its high-end specs, excellent design and cheap price but aggravating a few with the invite system that forced customers to wait for months.

OnePlus also got involved in some trashy campaigns to become even more relevant like asking customers to smash their old smartphone for free OnePlus One. This type of promotion has caused fans to go against the company.
Even with these mistakes, OnePlus claims it's matured and will continue to offer excellent smartphones in the future. The hype around the smartphone has died somewhat but a $300 high-end smartphone or $350 with 64 GB of storage is still a good deal for anyone in the market for an Android device.
The invite system has been removed because OnePlus is preparing another device to be the successor of the OnePlus One. It will be named the OnePlus 2 and we can expect a fingerprint sensor, new high-end specs and a refresh to the design.
OnePlus 2 will be on an invite system forcing customers to have to wait a few months to get the device unless they're lucky and get first place in the queue. The device should be priced around the same as last year's model.
OnePlus claims the invite system is needed to stop inventory issues and allows OnePlus to set up better deals with manufacturers that might not be able to afford the massive shipping spurts a non-invite system brings.
Being able to determine a specific number of units needed in one month is something a lot of manufacturers want when building components. It allows OnePlus to get parts cheaper than they would without the invite system.
With a move away from Cyanogen to its own Oxygen OS, OnePlus has a lot of new things to show in the next update. OnePlus 2 should be available in the next few months. We suspect it will be available in the US, some parts of Europe, China and India first.
