Spider-Man Animated Film Announced, Live Action Film Casting Shortlist Also Revealed

On Thursday, Sony announced a new animated film for the popular Marvel Super Hero, Spider-Man. They also announced that the film will be directed by "The Lego Movie" directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

Sony pictures chairman, Tom Rothman made the announcement during the CinemaCon that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rothman also clarified that the animated film will co-exist with the live-action Spider-Man universe that previously starred Andrew Garfield.

Lord and Miller, the duo behind blockbuster hits such as "22 Jump Street" and the animated film "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs". While Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Avi Arad are on board to produce the film.  

Unfortunately Rothman did not reveal much about the live-action Spider-Man reboot that is said to be in the works, the film is rumored to debut on July 28, 2017. Marvel's Kevin Feige and Sony's Pascal will be working together in producing the said movie that will feature a new Peter Parker.
The live action film was rumored to have already started the casting process and casting directors are said to have already narrowed down their list of Spider-Man contenders. The select group includes Tom Holland, Liam James, Nickelodeon star Natt Wolff, Asa Butterfield and Timothee Chalamet.

The younger actors are set to receive test offers from Sony and a decision is set to be announced in the next two weeks.

Casting will need to be finished soon seeing as Spider-Man will be making his Marvel debut in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" which is set to premiere on May 6, 2016.

Meanwhile, the animated Spider-Man film will debut in 2018.
