Osama bin Laden, born 1957 and was the seventh among fifty other brothers and sisters was kept under house arrest by the Pakistan military. They were given funds by the Saudi Arabia for the maintenance and sake of Bin Laden's upkeep. This information was stated in the article entitle "The Killing of Osama bin Laden" of the London Review of Books.
Hersh, an official US account, states in an article that tipster gave information about the location of Bin Laden to US officials and gave them $25 million in exchange. Most of the his statement contradicts most of the original account of the raid by US provided by Obama's administration. Hersh also revealed that he got most of the information from a retired senior official. A lie was told about the two most senior military leaders were not at all informed of the US mission. Hersh discovered that Bin Laden had been in the compound as a prisoner ever since 2006. Also stated in his article is that the White House's claim that the CIA knew about bin Laden's location was wrong, and it was all from the senior Pakistani officer.
However, US officials insisted that the operation was really conducted without any help from Pakistani's forces. In the article, Hersh's standpoint is really about bin Laden not really living in Abbottabad. For him, the only solution was to get the Pakistanis involved.
The US intelligence eventually proved that Laden really did stay in the compound by gathering information about it.
ISI was able to catch Laden, who was living little-known in Hindu Kush mountains, "by paying some of the local tribal people to betray him." Afterwards, ISI hid him secretly in the compound for years. In 2010, the US already knew about the whereabouts of Laden, and eventually CIA officials had some Pakistani officials involved in the planning of the operation because the Pakistanis themselves also want to cooperate.
Both parties, the Pakistani and American officials, were able to plan out the raid for they have bargained for weeks. The raid ended up as a success, and shot bin Laden. After he was killed, his body had a burial at sea with respect to the Muslim law.
