'American Idol' Grand Finale: Beckham vs. Fradiani

Clark Beckham and Nick Fradiani will battle it out to see who will be the next "American Idol". Fans of Beckham and Fradiani alike will have to tune in to the season's finale on May 13 to find out.

Beckham, Fradiani, and Jax Cole went head-to-head during the show's two-part Tuesday finale, but with the results of last week's performances, the pop-punk singer Cole was eliminated.

Patrick Gomez, in his article in People, has analyzed the reasons that could determine who will take the crown on Wednesday. Beckham, the 22-year-old crooner from White House, Tennessee, was pegged as a standout early on with his bluesy vocals and his soulful renditions of songs, be they contemporary or classic. Fradiani, 29, a veteran performer from Guildford, Connecticut, has grown from being "a middle-of-the-pack performer to a true contender for the title", according to Gomez.

The contenders will each have to perform three songs for what might be the performances of their lives: a personal selection  creator Simon Fuller's choice, and "the coronation song they'll perform as confetti showers down from the ceiling should they win on May 13," according to Jean Bentley's piece on US Weekly.

"American Idol", now on its 14th season, began airing on Fox in 2002 and has since grown to be considered as one of the most successful TV shows in American television history. The show has launched the careers of some of the biggest names in the music industry today, such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks. Top music industry players like Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Mariah Carey, at some point, have been the show's judges.

For the season 14 finale on Wednesday, there will be performances by artists like Chris Brown, Jamie Foxx, and Ricky Martin. The finale will air at 8 PM, Eastern Time on Fox.
