Coming in from second place after three days of the elimination rounds, Spain edged Thailand in the finals to win the inaugural LPGA International Crown Sunday.

On the 16th hole of the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, Belen Mozo sank a birdie with her putt to the delight of teammate Beatriz Recari.

Mozo, filled with jubilation, ran and jumped towards an awaiting Recari who lifted her up with a great big smile.

Members of the fifth-seeded Spain have been friends with each other on and off the green since they were younger and "coming in, we know we have an advantage over the other teams," said Mozo after winning the match against Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn 3 and 2.

Carlota Ciganda has set the tone for Spain as she beat South Korea's Na Yeon Choi 8 and 6 followed by another win from Recari over Sweden's Mikael Parmlid 3 and 2.

Azahara Munoz completed the sweep, winning against Japan's Ai Miyazato, 2 and 1.

Spain was tied in second place along with Sweden and Thailand at seven apiece behind Japan with eight points, and South Korea with six points who won the wild-card berth against the USA, coming into the finals where all four players from the five teams compete against each other in singles play.

Points accumulated from the elimination round's 'team-play' for the past three days were added to those collected on Sunday's singles play. Players winning their singles matches will be given two points and one point if they tied will be awarded to their team.
