Yota Devices, the makers of the YotaPhone 2 Dual Display, are planning to launch their product in the United States and Canada through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.

The YotaPhone 2 features a front AMOLED screen and a rear E Ink display. The dual display smartphone comes in either black or white color though there has been no update yet if the phone will come out in other colors. The limited edition handsets offer subscription to Bookmate (an ebook app) up to three months and bumper cases are also being offered. The latter will certainly come in handy since this particular smartphone has two screens to protect.

Yota Devices is offering their potential American and Canadian backers YotaPhone 2 units with a pre-order price of $500, $100 cheaper from the usual retail price. 

The phone manufacturer hopes to raise $50,000 in the Indiegogo campaign. Yota Devices said that the raised funds will be used to cover the "certifications and regulatory fees" needed for the U.S. and Canadian launching.

By American standards, the amount is not that exorbitant although the money raised falls under "flexible funding," which means that even if Yota Devices fails to reach the targeted amount, it keeps the actual money raised.

Whatever the outcome of the crowdfunding campaign, the phone maker will at least have some sort of credible data on how much demand is to be expected from the North American market.

The design of the original YotaPhone received positive reviews due to its imaginative use of the dual screens. Numerous reviews however, found the performance of the YotaPhone falling short.  The second version of the YotaPhone features a vastly improved model with regards to the use of the phone's e Ink display; however, unfortunately, the rest of the mobile phone has not improved.  Fortunately, with the help of the U.S. and Canadian backers, the next version of the YotaPhone will improved by then.
