Veteran free agent running backs Ben Tate and Felix Jones are currently working out with the Dallas Cowboys, according to Conor Orr of the NFL's official website.

Tate, who was drafted in the second round by the Houston Texans in 2010, became a journeyman last season playing briefly for three different teams, namely Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, and Pittsburg Steelers. Before that, he was a staple at Houston where he had his most productive season in 2011, gaining 942 yards on 175 attempts.

Meanwhile, Jones played six seasons in the NFL after being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. His most productive season was in 2010, when he gained 800 yards on 185 attempts. He has not played professionally since joining the Steelers in 2013.

Both players are making the most of their opportunity to "resurrect their careers" by trying out with the Cowboys, writes Rainer Sabin of Dallas Cowboys Blog. Although the team already has a talented backfield consisting of Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams, there is no harm in adding two more in Tate and Jones.

Tate could be a perfect fit in Dallas as he has always been a reliable complement to Arian Foster in Houston and the Cowboys has one of the best offensive lines in the NFL where he can thrive, as reported by Josh Alper of NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk.

Jones participated in the first ever NFL Veteran Combine last March to somehow gain another chance of playing in the league. He had a couple of 40-yard dashes and nothing more.

Dallas head coach Jason Garrett said that the team feels good about having many running back options and that they are "always trying to create competition" to make their backfield better.
