Hoya, who is part of Korean boy band Ïnfinite, is starring in the new SBS drama entitled "Mask" and will play the character of Byun Ji-hyuk. The idol wants to show his acting chops with this role.
This is not the first time that Hoya, 24, is appearing in a Korean drama. He last appeared on "My Lovely Girl" that premiered in September 2014, where he played the leader of a fictional idol group.

Hoya's role now is completely different from his last role. He is playing the immature brother of Park Soo-ae's character, Byun Ji-soo. Ji-hyuk may not be bright and a big time troublemaker, but the character cares about his family.
Korean pop idols are not usually taken as serious actors. They are mostly roped in for their flower boy looks and appeal. Hoya, however, is eager to prove that he is not just another idol, with a pretty face and zero acting skills. Soompi quoted him as saying, "I want to show others, as an actor and not as an idol, that I can work hard to play my character well. Please give lots of love to our drama 'Mask,' and my character Ji Hyuk."
"Mask" made its debut on Wednesday, May 27. In addition to Soo-ae and Hoya, this 20-episode Korean drama also stars Ju Ji-Hoon, Yeon Jeong-Hun, and Yu In-Young. Soo-ae is playing double roles, an heiress (Seo Eun-ha) and a commoner (Byun Ji-soo). According to the show's plot line, Ji-soo, who is carrying the burden of her father's loan, will become part of the Chaebol family, hiding her real identity, and her life will change.
Speaking about her role, Soo-ae, who is returning to television after a gap of nearly two years, said at a press conference that this role of hers is completely different from her previous role in "King of Ambition," though the new show also has similar elements.
