(Photo : Reuters) Gadget fans across the globe will eagerly look forward to the Worldwide Developers Conference that is scheduled to start next week, as Apple is expected to reveal the all-new kit for the Smartwatch app developers.

Metaio, a German firm that has been known to help clients in making augmented reality display products, has recently transferred a large part of its shares to Apple, indicating a prospective acquisition by the latter.

According to The Verge, it has obtained legal documents that confirms a transfer of shares between Germany-headquartered Metaio and tech giant Apple. As per the details of the transfer, Apple has acquired a major stake in Metaio, a firm that specializes in offering tools facilitating the development of 3D augmented displays; however, there has been no official confirmation of the news by either Apple or Metaio. Tech analysts are predicting that this acquisition clearly indicates Apple's keen interest to foray into augmented reality display tools, the next big computing platform of the world.

Metaio is considered to be a leader of the pack when it comes to augmented reality display tools. This team has worked with several high profile clients like Ferrari and Ikea. For example, Metaio's work with Ferrari made it possible for customers to view the cars in the showroom as well as apply different colors to understand what suits their tastes. Even in the case of Ikea, Metaio did the same thing with their furniture catalogue.

Meanwhile, Apple has also posted job listings for profiles where knowledge of virtual reality technologies is mandatory. In fact, they have also recently filed a patent for an augmented reality headset that is compatible with the iPhone, conveying their desire to get into the domain of augmented reality.

Another report from CNET said that though Apple didn't give confirmation of the deal, it issued a statement, according to which the company spokesperson said, that they usually acquire small companies from time to time. The statement also clarified that it was usual not to reveal the plan or purpose of an acquisition for Apple.

Recently, even Google showcased its virtual reality headset at the I/O developer conference. Additionally, there are many technology companies, from Microsoft to Samsung, that have been open about their belief in the potential of both Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technology.
