Despite Lahm's refusal to part with his native club, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal still admire the brilliant defender and has voiced out his intention of bringing Lahm to play for his side.
In one of his latest interviews, Lahm told Squawka that despite interesting offers from international clubs his decision to stay with his hometown club, Bayern Munich, proved to be the best decision. He added that winning the Champions League for Bayern Munich is one of his top priority, a feat which he finally achieved in 2013.
Lahm helped Bayern Munich win seven Bundesliga titles. He also captained the German football squad that trashed the highly-favored Brazil during the 2014 World Cup. Germany won the 2014 World Cup tournament after besting Argentina 1-0.
During Pep Guardiola's reign as manager for Bayern Munich, Lahm switch from full-back into a mid-field position. This proves to be a fruitful gamble for Guardiola after Lahm played the position with great success. After switching to the midfield position, Lahm recorded a passing accuracy of 89 percent.
Aside from Lahm, Manchester United is also eyeing to acquire Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Muller, according to ESPN.
Schweinsteiger, who also plays for the German national team, refused to comment about the rumors of his transfer to the Old Trafford, according to Bleacher Report. The 30-year old footballer added that he still has his contract with Bayern until 2016.
United manager van Gaal has also expressed his interest of acquiring Muller. Van Gaal was able to work with Muller during the Dutchman's two-year stint as manager of Bayern Munich from 2009 up to 2011.
