September is fast approaching and Amir Khan's dream to become the last opponent of Floyd Mayweather Jr., and potentially his biggest remuneration as well, is also fast diminishing.

The number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world continues to be firm about his intended final fight before retirement three months from now. Mayweather claims to no longer have the same kind of drive and passion for the sport as before, but he wants to go out with a bang and along with it an opponent that is worthy enough to generate another big payday.

So many names were suggested and speculated for the prized spot, such as a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, or Canelo Alvarez. All are valuable cash cows, but Pacquiao is still recuperating from a busted shoulder while Cotto and Canelo are planning to slug each other this September.

Which leaves Mayweather with the impending fight that has been making the most noise for the longest time: the one with the British sensation.

Khan's name had been linked with Mayweather since early 2013, but circumstances never allowed it to happen. Instead, the pay-per-view king chose the more lucrative fights available, one with Alvarez, two with Marcos Maidana, and the "Fight of the Century" against Pacquiao, which broke all boxing records when it came to income generation.

Khan feels that it is now time for Mayweather to step up in the ring with him, but Money seems to be still unconvinced about his earning potential.

Fellow Briton Kell Brook told Khan that he needs to earn more respect first before he can dance with Mayweather, as per Sports World News. Brook said that the King should fight him first to warrant reverence before he can be worthy enough to fight the pay-per-view king.

Even British legend Prince Naseem Hamed suggested that he should fight Brook first before thinking about the unbeaten American, according to ESPN

Meanwhile, a contrasting report from UK's Daily Star said that Khan's adviser Al Haymon, who also works for The Money Team, is currently cooking up the potential matchup of his two clients. There are still no official announcements with regard to this, but the rumor is loud even though Khan failed to impress Mayweather in his last fight against Chris Algieri.
