While the world is set for the impending mammoth bout between four-division world champion and current WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and former light middleweight champion Saul Alvarez, ring legend Oscar De La Hoya is unintentionally generating buzz by saying that he thinks about his comeback fight every day.

In a post Cotto-Geale match interview, East Side Boxing reported De La Hoya told reporters that Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) versus Canelo (45-1-1, 32 KOs) would be a fun fight to watch that the fans would really enjoy.
However, when prodded to comment on his rumored comeback, the 42-year-old said something pretty interesting: "No, I haven't said anything (about confirming it) yet, (but) I think about it every day, so?"
Forced to continue talking about it and asked if he wanted a warm-up fight, the Golden Boy said: "I'm not all about small fights, I'm all about always fighting the very best."
Now, that's curious.
De La Hoya's last fight was way back in 2008 when he lost an eighth-round TKO to Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao. Seven years later, he suddenly mentions a possible return fight, although he wouldn't substantiate it and who his potential opponent would be.
Fight Saga speculated that Cotto would be the most likely antagonist of De La Hoya if ever he does return to the ring, after the former's imminent mega-fight with Alvarez, adding that a fight with the East L.A. legend would be more viable for the Puerto Rican than a potential match with rising star Gennady Golovkin.
Cotto is a natural welterweight or light middleweight, and going up or implementing another catch weight bout to face Golovkin would not be a wise career move for him. He risks of getting hurt and receiving a lower salary in the process. Meanwhile, De La Hoya can face him at his most comfortable weight and would most probably earn him a much bigger paycheck than a fight with GGG.
Boxing News 24's Dan Ambrose said that Golovkin is "making a mistake" of allowing the Cotto-Canelo bout to happen without the winner agreeing to fight him next. GGG had long been waiting for the big fight that would propel him towards the mainstream limelight, but boxing's cash cows are not willing to trade punches with him because of the potential financial risks that he brings to the table.
