(Photo : Reuters) USA Today reported that it has obtained official papers, which state that the DOE from 2010 until 2014, experienced more than a thousand virtual attacks.

China hacking U.S. became headlines when the American authorities exposed the hackers who could have taken confidential information about former security officials. However, this is the second time in the row that American authorities have come across a breach in their personal information network.

In a report by Yahoo, it is revealed that China linked hackers have gained access into sensitive background information that had been submitted by military and intelligence authorities in order to gain security clearances of certain individuals.

The American authorities are also going on to claim that this security breach is much bigger than the previous one that they had acknowledged. In order to get security clearance, the individuals are required to fill the Standard Form 86, which are then submitted to the government. With this hack, the officials fear that hackers may have stolen the information of these forms. These forms require the applicant to fill out a lot of personal data like the illness, drugs they rely on and other relevant information.

Rueters has also confirmed the news citing that it had been acknowledged by several American officials. The stolen forms also contain information about Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency and military special operations personnel.

In October 2014 itself, the authorities has investigated 2.9 million individuals. An official on condition of anonymity confirmed the hack saying that a separate set of data had been stolen; however, so far there has been no confirmation about the involvement of China in the entire incident. Nevertheless, the authorities are not ruling out possibilities.

The reports came in shortly after President Barack Obama's top national security adviser, Susan Rice's crucial meeting with a top Chinese military officer, General Fan Changlong, at the White House. The meeting was focused on working out ways to narrow down the disagreements between the two countries, an area which also includes cyber security.

Currently, China is not on friendly terms with America, after the latter's aggressive territorial claims in the South China Sea. China, on the other hand, is rejecting the allegations; however, the repeated cyber security breaches and increasing tension in South China Sea is expected to affect the economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
