NFL News & Rumors: Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas No Deal Yet, Could Miss Season Opener

Demaryius Thomas' case with the Denver Broncos is the same one as Dez Bryant's with the Dallas Cowboys.

Because Thomas and the Broncos couldn't agree on a deal last season, the Denver management put a $12.82 million franchise tender on its five-year veteran wide receiver, which the former Georgia Tech standout has yet to sign. Thomas has yet to participate in any organized team activities and last week's team minicamp as well.

While Bryant is sure that he won't be playing on Week 1 for the Cowboys, the three-time Pro Bowl player is still undecided whether to suit up for Peyton Manning against the Baltimore Ravens in their opener, as per Fox Sports.

According to Chris Wesseling of the NFL's official website, Manning is currently upset that the management could not find a compromise with his favorite wide receiver with regards to a win-win contract.

The one-time Super Bowl MVP and champion, 14-time Pro Bowl player, and five-time NFL MVP is known to spend hours and hours in practice with his offensive pieces during the offseason, particularly the team's wide receivers and running backs, to build flawless timing.

Without Thomas in any of the team's events, add to that the trials and errors of adapting to the different offensive system brought in by new head coach Gary Kubiak, Manning is said to be feeling helpless at this point in time.

Thomas and the management should agree to a long-term deal before the league's July 15 deadline, or else the 27-year-old wideout would have to play with the franchise tag or not play at all.

At this point, there seemed to be no negotiations going on as both parties are at a standstill.

According to The Denver Post, putting a monetary value on Thomas' skills as a wide receiver in a salary capped sport is not going to be easy. Surely, he is one of the most talented wideouts today, arguably better than Eric Decker or Mike Wallace, but not in the level of Bryant or Calvin Johnson.

Johnson is set to earn an annual average salary of about $16.2 million, which tops the NFL for wide receivers. With their franchise tenders, Bryant and Thomas are tied at second place.
