On Monday, South Korea health ministry reported on Monday two dead patients of MERS. World Health Organization (WHO) said S. Korea is the "largest and complex" MERS outbreak that is outside Saudi Arabia.
According to Reuters, the outbreak was traced to a 68-year-old Korean man came from Middles East. He sought medical help before he was confirmed positive in MERS.
The health ministry in Seoul confirmed three new cases, making the total numbers of cases to 172. MERS was first learned in Saudi Arabia way back in 2012, then majority of the cases were in Middle Ease.
Meanwhile, in Thailand, the health ministry of the country detected MERS to a 75-year-old man who returned from Oman. He was treated in Bangkok and soon discovered he has been positive in MERS.
Thai Deputy Health Minister Vachira Pengchan told reporters, "Today we can assure [you] that we have found no new MERS cases"
"Overall we are able to control the virus and the risk is lower," Vachira added.
Thailand is known for a hub of medical tourism. Around 1.4 million visitors travel to the country for healthcare each year. The public ministry might ask private hospitals to screen those travelers who came from high risk areas.
Malaysia also tightens their health screening to all entry levels. Deputy Health Minister Hilmi Yahaya told news agency Bernama,"Now, we are going further to include all entry points."
Last week, S. Korea health ministry told news reporters that the outbreak might level off. On Saturday, no new MERS cases reported.
The last victim of MERS was an 80-year-old man who already had health problems, DW reported.. Most schools in S. Korea, particularly in Seoul, have postponed classes due to fear about possibilities of virus to grow.
