miss A's Suzy has declined the offer to star in the much-anticipated Korean drama "Cheese in the Trap." She was offered the role of the female protagonist, Hong Seol.

"After much deliberation, [Suzy] has decided to decline the casting offer. She will continue to work hard in order to show a better image," Soompi quoted a representative from Suzy's management agency, JYP Entertainment, as saying to TV Report.

Confirming that Suzy is no longer being considered for the role, a person closely involved in "Cheese in the Trap" said that the singer-actress's busy music schedule and the drama's filming schedule were difficult to coordinate.  

"We are aware that a lot of people are showing interest [in the casting of this drama]. We will try to complete the best cast lineup in order to meet everyone's expectations," the person added, as quoted by Soompi.

Netizens seemed to be happy with this development. When the news first broke that Suzy may headline the project, there were a lot of negative reactions. Netizens were worried that the girlfriend of popular Korean actor, Lee Min Ho, would not be able to do justice to Hong Seol because the character has to show a wide range of expressions. The singer-actress is not a rookie when it comes to acting in a drama but is not known for her acting prowess.    

Now, the netizens are saying that Suzy made the right decision by dropping the project. Some of her fans are also heaving a sigh of relief, saying that they are her fans, but she was not a "fit" for the role of Hong Seol. Netizenbuzz's blog quoted one of the posters as saying, "For the first time ever, I'd like to genuinely thank Suzy and give her my gratitude."        

Meanwhile, Park Hae Jin has signed on to play the male protagonist, Yoo Jung. He continues to be the only confirmed cast till now. Lee Yoon Jung is helming the project, while Kim Nam Hee has come on board as a writer.

"Cheese in the Trap" is based on a popular webtoon of the same name created by Soonkki. The first strip was released in 2010. The drama is scheduled to air in October on tvN and has booked Monday-Tuesday slot.
